DAIRY PARTNERS WEST MIDLAND OPEN RACE CHAMPIONSHIP

The West Midland Area P.P.S.A. is grateful to Dairy Partners who are offering £1000 to the horse that scores the most points in a series of
26 races, commencing at the Harkaway Club fixture on 27th December 2019 and finishing at the Albrighton & Woodland (South) meeting on Monday 27th May 2020.

The Championship is open to ANY HORSE running in these qualifying events which includes all the Mens, Ladies and Mixed Opens which take place in the Area plus other selected events (See the list of qualifying races below).
Points in these qualifying races are – 1st – 7 points/2nd – 5 points/3rd – 3 points/4th – 1 point

The Gwillam’s Annual Hunter Chase at Worcester on Friday 25th May, provides an additional opportunity for horses to bolster their chances of securing this prize. This has normally been restricted to horses qualified with West Midlands packs, but has been extended this year so whichever Hunt your horse has been qualified with you are eligible to run if your horse finishes 1st or 2nd in one of the 26 nominated races.
Scoring for Hunter Chase – 1st – 12 points/2nd – 7 points/3rd – 5 points/4th – 3 points.

The winning horse will be identified as soon as possible after the final meeting of the season and connections will be invited to attend the Champions Awards Ball at Cheltenham Racecourse on Saturday 27th June, where the Award will be presented.

BRIAN ARMSTRONG CHAMPION NOVICE HORSE AWARD

This perpetual Trophy is awarded to the Champion Novice Horse in the Wessex and West Midlands Areas.

First awarded in 2019, it is presented (with a memento) at the Annual Awards event in the winner’s Area. The trophy perpetuates the former Western Daily Press Young Horse Award first awarded in the 1990s.

To be eligible to score points a horse:

  •  Must be qualified with a Hunt affiliated to the Wessex or West Midlands Areas
  •  Must have run in a Maiden race in the current Point-to-Point Season.

SCORING

Points can be scored in any Point-to-Point race or hunter chase in G.B. up to the close of the Wessex or West Midlands Point-to-Point season (whichever is the later).

Scoring: 10 pts for 1st, and (except in Maiden P-t-P races) 6 pts for 2nd, and 3 pts for 3rd

In the case of a dead heat, the points for the particular position shall be added to that of the next position and divided equally between those involved.

This Award is for horses yet to win a Maiden that are qualified in the West Midland and Wessex Areas
