Saturday 27th 2019, Woodford, Berkeley

The Berkeley Races is hosting its second Berkeley Scurry at Berkeley Races on Saturday 27th April 2019 at Woodford, Berkeley, after the last race.

  6. A number cloth will be worn on each horse, collected from the declarations tent on the day and must be returned to the same place following the Scurry.

Further details

  1. The Berkeley Scurry will take place after the last race has finished and will not be run under BHA regulations.
  2. Entries are sought on a first come basis, but priority will be for those who have hunted with the Berkeley. There will be a safety factor of 12 participants. If the entry list is full, participants may only be placed on the waiting list on receipt of completed entry form.
  3. Entry is £50 per rider (£40 for pony club member) and your space will only be confirmed once monies have been received.
  4. Declarations to run must be lodged in the declarations tent before 2.30pm on the day.
  5. The Berkeley Scurry distance will be one circuit (approximately 1.5 miles).
  6. 10 fences to be jumped in total, including the open ditch.
  7. Details of both horse and rider will be published in the official race card.
  8. An optimum time will be set for the Scurry, this will be set by the Senior Master, at a good hunting pace (that’s a good Berkeley Hunting pace…!).
  9. The optimum time is an important underpin parameter, as this is the key differential – this is a ride and not a race!
  10. The rider who completes the course closest to the optimum time will be presented with the Berkeley Races Challenge Ride trophy.
  11. No official betting is allowed on this Scurry.
  12. Riders and owners are reminded that horses should be fully fit to run in the Scurry before being entered, any may be subject to a veterinary inspection.
  13. The organisers reserve the right to ask any rider to stop during the Scurry, if the horse or rider is considered unfit to continue for any reason.
  14. The closing date for entries is Saturday 13th April 2019.
  15. In the event of cancellation, we will notify participants by email. Notices will also be posted on social media. 80% of the entry fee will be refunded.
