Viewing is excellent and meeting well organised with plenty of trade stands to occupy non-racegoers. It is also very popular so arrive early to avoid queues.
The fences are well made and the course has the ability to cope with the wettest weather.
The start is located in a small chute near the entrance to the back straight. The runners race along the skyline over three evenly spaced jumps, the last of which is the open ditch. Horses have begun to sort themselves out at this point before they make a left handed turn and race downhill to the fourth fence.
The runners disappear momentarily from view as they race down into a dip and back into view before they face fence five which located at the top of this short incline.
The runners then take an easy left hand turn where they encounter fence six, while fence seven is in a slight depression and spectators at this fence can impede the view for crowds watching in the main viewing areas. There is then a long sweeping bend into the home straight and a slight downhill run to fence eight.
The second last tends to catch out tied horses and the final fence needs to be met on a good stride to gain an advantage down the long run in. Winners are usually in the lead at the final bend.
