This course is considered one of the longest in the country and the 3 mile start is about as far away from the crowds as you can get. It is described as a flat galloping course, fences fairly soft with final three close together, well drained alongside river, watering can be challenging but does take place when required to achieve safe ground.
The runners take the first three fences before making a slight left handed turn into the home straight where they take three fences before the winning post and another fence after it.
They then takes fences 8, 9 and 10 before a long gallop to fence 11 they then bear right handed, straighten up and then turn left to meet fence 12 and then turn left handed to end up by the start.
The 2-1/2 mile start takes place between fences 5 and 6 on the 3 mile course, with fence 6 being the first fence on the shorter course
