The West Midland Area will stage 14 meetings during the 2020/2021 season. Andoversford, Didmarton, Paxford, Knightwick, Shelfield Park and Woodford run one fixture while Maisemore Park stages three meetings and Chaddesley Corbett hosts five Point-to-Points.
MESSAGE FROM THE P.P.A.
A new point-to-point fixture list has been confirmed for the rest of the season, with a restart scheduled for Monday, March 29.
This fixture list will provide 12 weeks racing at 54 fixtures over 27 racedays, subject of course to government requirements.
We are very grateful for all the fixtures who have volunteered to run, and indeed those who have stepped down to ensure that the sport remains viable behind closed doors. We are particularly grateful to five fixtures who have stepped up to run at end of March during weekdays – indeed one of these has now moved four times to help the sport.
However, they are subject to them being able to find the necessary professional support as well as get clearance, and so all fixtures in March/April may change date by one or two days due to the need to find the various elements required. The April dates are now as firm as they can be under the current conditions, with May and June to be confirmed at the end of March.
Of course this is not as large a programme as we would normally expect. However, it is of note that there were sadly only 47 fixtures over 23 racedays last season, whilst the full season in 1981, representing seventies and eighties, starting on February 1 had 31 racedays. Thus we can still plan on having a great season, albeit delayed with a total greater than either of them.
If things continue as planned the next scheduled meetings in the West Midlands will be
TUESDAY 30TH MARCH – GLOUCESTER RACES – MAISEMORE PARK
SUNDAY 11TH APRIL – CROOME & WEST WARWICKS – SHELFIELD PARK
SATURDAY 17TH APRIL – WORCESTERSHIRE – CHADDESLEY CORBETT
SUNDAY 25TH APRIL – BERKELEY – WOODFORD
MONDAY 31ST MAY – ALBRIGHTON & WOODLAND (SOUTH) – CHADDESLEY CORBETT
NOTE : – ANDOVERSFORD RACES, COTSWOLD VALE FARMERS AND NORTH COTSWOLD MEETINGS WILL NOT BE TAKING PLACE THIS YEAR
In line with the Government guidance for elite sports grounds and until further notice, admission to racecourses will be limited to participants, racehorse owners and essential raceday personnel only (although this can differ depending on local authority guidance). All attendees will need to observe the existing strict health and safety protocols outlined by the BHA and local and national government (see article published on 16th October).
Worcestershire Point to Point Fund Raising Auction
Worcestershire Point to Point is set to go ahead on the 17th April 2021, with or without a crowd. This includes one of the oldest and most prestigious races in the country, The Lady Dudley Cup, which attracts the best horses from all over the UK.
Due to the ongoing pandemic that has affected us all we may have to run “behind closed doors” however the cost of running a meeting without paying members of the public is significant.
By supporting this auction of incredible lots you will enable the Worcestershire Point to Point to continue.
The auction will close at 10.00pm on Sunday 21st February 2021 and winning bidders will be contacted directly by Jumblebee for their payment.
To place a bid you will be asked to sign in or register with Jumblebee. Please read the terms and conditions of each auction lot before bidding and feel free to e-mail the administrator with any questions.
Do please forward the auction link on to anyone you think might like to bid and support us.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have so generously donated such fabulous prizes in such challenging times – we are so grateful to you all.
E-Ticketing is available for most fixtures. Identify which fixture you wish to attend and click the link on the appropriate page.
